Russian State Social University
The Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education "Russian State Social University" (RGSU) is a higher education institution engaged in educational activities in the field of social sciences.
The predecessors of the RSSU were the Y. M. Sverdlov Communist University (established in 1919) and the Higher Party School under the Central Committee of the CPSU (b) (1939), on the basis of which the Russian State Social University was established in the 1990s.In 1978, the Moscow Higher Party School was established.
In 1990, the Institute of Socio-Political Problems of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the RSFSR was transformed into the Institute of Socio-Political Problems of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the RSFSR.

Первые обращения в Правительство РСФСР с предложением создать центр подготовки специалистов для социальной сферы на имя Председателя Правительства РСФСР И. С. Силаева и его заместителя И. И. Гребёшевой поступили в феврале 1991 года. Тогда же началась работа над учебными планами и программами по курсам «социальная работа», «социальная психология», «социальная педагогика». Сложилась группа учёных, избравших социальные науки и социальное образование сферой своих профессиональных и гражданских интересов (Е. И. Холостова, В. И. Митрохин, И. А. Зимняя, В. Г. Бочарова и другие).
27 марта 1991 года институт переименован в Российский социально-политический институт ЦК КП РСФСР.
25 ноября 1991 года институт переименован в Российский государственный социальный институт (с 1 июля 1994 года — Московский государственный социальный университет), 1 июля 2004 года университет получил своё нынешнее название.
