Temporary residence permit
A temporary residence permit is a document allowing a foreigner to reside and work in the Russian Federation.
The RVP is issued for a period of up to 3 years. It cannot be extended for a longer period. Upon termination of the document, the foreigner must choose:
to apply for a residence permit in the Russian Federation. You must submit the documents no later than 4 months before the end of the RVR
to leave Russia, re-enter and get
the RVR to leave Russia again.
For violating these rules, a fine of 2,000 to 5,000 rubles and expulsion from the Russian Federation are provided.

What documents are needed for the RVPs

- Passport or other identification document
- 2 black-and-white or color photos 3.5×4.5 cm, for stateless people — 5 such photos
- Medical report on the absence of drugs and psychotropic substances in the body — for foreigners over 13 years old
- Medical report on the absence of dangerous infectious diseases
- Certificate of absence of HIV infection
- A document on knowledge of the Russian language, history, and the basics of Russian law is only for men under 65 and women under 60. It can be:
- certificate of proficiency in the Russian language, knowledge of the history and fundamentals of Russian legislation. To get it, take an exam in one of the approved organizations
- . A document on education received in Russia is at least a grade 9
- certificate or diploma issued in the USSR.
The document is not needed:
- мужчинам старше 65 лет и женщинам старше 60 лет
- участникам госпрограммы переселения соотечественников в РФ
- гражданам Беларуси или Украины
- иностранцам до 18 лет
- недееспособным или ограниченно дееспособным иностранцам
- Документ, подтверждающий проживание иностранца вне государства его гражданства, например вид на жительство (ВНЖ), — при наличии нескольких гражданств. Документ понадобится для каждого из гражданств, кроме того, которое укажете в заявлении основным
- Миграционная карта
- Справка об отсутствии судимости — если прибыли в РФ в порядке, требующем получения визы. Получить её нужно в вашем государстве или его посольстве на территории РФ. С момента получения справки до подачи заявления не должно пройти больше 3 месяцев
Если документы для разрешения на временное проживание (РВП) на иностранном языке, понадобится их нотариально заверенный перевод на русский
